What are Reggae Fests?
A Caribbean dance party is a Reggae Fest. From time to time, a Reggae Fest may feature various genres of Reggae music. For instance, genres include classic Reggae and other like sub-genres of Reggae such as Ska, Dancehall, Ragga and more.
Additionally, the 1980s introduced electronic sounds. Naturally, an electronic Reggae sub-genre developed. Ragga surprisingly became a hit as the electronic sounds made it's way into the celebrated rhythms at Reggae music festivals. Of course, Reggae music started in Jamaica in the late 1960s, and was influenced by Jamaican culture and Caribbean rhythms. Furthermore, Reggae evolved out of the earlier genres like Ska and rocksteady.
The First Reggae Festival
It wasn't until the 1970s when the popularity of Reggae music drew enough fans for large festivals in Jamaica starring famed reggae bands. For example, the Wonder Dream Concert in 1975 was one of the first internationally noted festivals to focus on Reggae. Later, in 1979 Reggae Geel became the first Reggae festival in Europe, and these concerts soon spread to other locales. That is to say, the Reggae Fest gained fame across the globe.
